FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything you need to know about Artriso Calso One eco-resin.
PILLAR ONE
THE MATERIAL
What is Eco-Resin and how is it different from Epoxy Resin?
Eco-resin is a water-based acrylic composite, whereas Epoxy Resin is a petroleum-based chemical resin. Unlike Epoxy Resin, Artriso Calso One is 100% non-toxic, VOC-free, and does not require a respirator. It mimics the tactile feel of stone and cures in 30–45 minutes, compared to the 24-hour cycle required for Epoxy Resin.
How is Calso One different from Jesmonite?
Artriso Calso One is a “Just Add Water” single-part system, whereas Jesmonite (like AC100) is a two-part system requiring a specific liquid cross-linker and powder. Calso One is specifically formulated for the Indian climate to provide a smoother, porcelain-like finish and is more readily available locally with significantly lower shipping costs.
How is Artriso Calso One different from Beyond Mix?
The primary difference is the formulation complexity. Beyond Mix is a traditional two-part system (Powder + Liquid Acrylic), while Artriso Calso One is an advanced “Single-Component” system. With Calso One, the acrylic polymers are already integrated into the powder—you simply add water. This makes it easier to ship, store, and measure while providing a more consistent, high-strength finish.
Can I mix Eco-Resin with Epoxy Resin?
No. Eco-resin (water-based) and Epoxy Resin (chemical-based) are not compatible. Mixing them will prevent the material from curing properly and will ruin the structural integrity of your piece. However, you can get creative with layering—pour one section of your mould with eco-resin first, allow it to fully cure, and then pour the remaining section with epoxy resin. This way, each material cures independently without interfering with the other, giving you the best of both worlds in a single piece.
PILLAR TWO
THE APPLICATION
What is the correct mixing ratio for Calso One?
The standard mixing ratio is 3 parts Base Powder to 1 part Water by weight. For example: 300g of powder to 100g of water. For a professional, prestige finish, we strictly recommend using a digital scale; measuring by volume is inaccurate and leads to soft pieces.
What is the 'Working Time' (Pot Life) before it sets?
You have approximately 10 to 15 minutes of “working time” once mixed. In warmer regions of India, this time may be slightly shorter. We recommend having your moulds and pigments ready before you start mixing.
How long does it take for the resin to set and demould?
You can typically demould within 30 to 50 minutes. While the object will feel hard, it requires a full 48 to 72 hours to lose all internal moisture and reach its maximum “Elite” hardness and color depth.
How do I prevent air bubbles in my pieces?
To achieve a bubble-free finish, stir slowly for 2 minutes to avoid whipping air into the mix. After pouring, tap the sides of the mould vigorously. For intricate designs, use a small brush to “paint” a thin layer of mix into the details first.
PILLAR THREE
THE FINISH
What pigments can I use with Artriso Eco-Resin?
Use water-based pigments or Artriso's specialized pigment line. Do not use pigments designed for Epoxy Resin, as they are oil-based and will not mix. High-quality acrylic paints can be used but should not exceed 2% of the total weight.
Can I create a 'Terrazzo' effect with Calso One?
Yes. The terrazzo effect is achieved by breaking cured, colored pieces of eco-resin into chips and mixing them into a fresh batch. Unlike Epoxy Resin, Calso One sands easily to reveal the beautiful stone-like chips inside.
Why is my finished piece "chalky" or leaving a white residue?
Chalkiness usually occurs due to an incorrect mixing ratio (too much water) or demoulding too early in a high-humidity environment. Ensure a strict 3:1 weight ratio and allow the piece to air-dry in a well-ventilated spot.
PILLAR FOUR
THE STANDARD
Does Artriso Eco-Resin need to be sealed?
Yes. Because it is a porous material similar to stone, it must be sealed to become water and stain-resistant. Without sealer, liquids like coffee or oil may stain the surface.
Is Calso One food-safe?
While non-toxic and VOC-free, it is not certified as food-safe for direct, prolonged contact with wet or oily foods. It is perfect for dry food displays but not for dinnerware or microwaves.
Is the material heat resistant?
Yes, once fully cured, it is heat resistant up to 80°C, making it ideal for candle holders and coasters. Do not expose it to open flames.
How strong is the finished product?
Calso One is an acrylic-composite, making it significantly stronger and more impact-resistant than traditional plaster or gypsum. It has a slight structural flex that prevents easy chipping.
PILLAR FIVE
THE STUDIO
Does humidity in India affect the curing process?
Yes. High humidity can slow water evaporation. If working in coastal regions, wait an extra 15–20 minutes before demoulding and ensure your curing area has good airflow.
Can I use tap water for mixing?
In areas with hard water, we recommend using distilled or RO water. Excessive minerals in tap water can cause white streaks (efflorescence) or affect pigment vibrance.
What is the shelf life of Calso One?
When kept in its original, air-tight black pouch, it has a shelf life of 6 to 9 months. Keep the pouch fully sealed to prevent the powder from reacting with moisture in the air.
How do I clean my moulds and tools after use?
Simply wash with warm soapy water before the resin hardens. Unlike Epoxy Resin, you do not need harsh chemicals like alcohol or acetone for cleanup.
Is Artriso safe for children's workshops?
Yes, its non-toxic nature makes it the preferred choice for schools. Unlike Epoxy Resin, which requires strict safety gear, Calso One is safe for all creative environments.
Do you offer bulk quantities for small businesses?
Yes. We offer bulk sizes (20kg+) for professional studios. Contact us at contact@artriso.com for commercial pricing.
